- Easy: remember that we said that a 10 Megapixel image has the following dimensions 3648×2736? Now if you divide 3648 by 300 (your desired resolution), you’ll get 12.16 inches for the long side of the printed photograph, and similarly divide 2736 by 300 to get 9.12 inches for the short side.

- Since the sensor in your typical digital SLR is only about a square inch in area, that means each pixel in a 10-megapixel camera’s sensor must be about a ten-millionth of a square inch. That’s insanely small. In fact it’s barely enough area for capturing sufficient photons for a meaningful sample of light.

- You could say my love of photography came with my very first purple camera when I was 8 years old. While the camera I use is no longer purple, the passion for taking pictures remains the same. My name is Jackie Powell, and I've always felt that I see the world through different eyes. I see everything around me in still frames. I'm a firm believer in capturing one-of-a-kind moments.

- A general rule is that a print requires 300 pixels per inch (one megapixel equals 1 million pixels). So an 8 x 10 print would need 2,400 pixels x 3,000 pixels for a total area of 7.2 million pixels, or 7.2 megapixel camera. A 16 x 20 print would require 4,800 pixels x 6,000 pixels for a total area of 28.8 million pixels, or 28.8 megapixels.

Megapixels: How Big Can You Really Print a Photo?

- If you un-tick the resample option, you’ll see that as you reduce the PPI value, the dimensions of the image become bigger. A 100px x 100px file, at 100 PPI will produce a 1″ x 1″ print. But at 10 PPI, it’ll produce a 10″ x 10″ print. So, resampling allows you to print larger whilst retaining the PPI value of your choice.
