- In 1927 Kacyzne began his collaboration with the *Jewish Daily Forward* in New York. For the paper's weekly Art Section, Kacyzne took a series of photographs depicting Jewish life in scores of communities throughout Poland. Kacyzne also photographed Yiddish theater performances and made numerous photo portraits of Jewish personalities.

- Alter Kacyzne continued to work as a photographer and writer in Warsaw. He fled with his family in September 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. He survived in Soviet-occupied eastern Poland until the Nazi advance in June 1941. Kacyzne fled even further east in Poland to Tarnopol but was killed in the Ukrainian pogrom on July 7.

However, approximately 700 of the photographs had been sent to New York and are currently housed at the YIVO Institute. They combine the disciplined distance of the anthropologist and the loving nature of the artist.
