- As far as using the SX50 stand-alone on a tripod, I would not use the digital zoom. At best the digital zoom just crops the image. At worst it can degrade an image by up-sizing it. Always use optical zoom only for the best image quality. Digital zoom is worthless and can degrade image quality.
