- Get a nifty fifty (50mm prime lens)and use it wide open. Well, just get ANY lens you can that can have a wide aperture. Also, bump up your ISO to higher than you'd normally use. I say these things because to shoot moving bowlers, you'll need a fast shutter speed, like 1/180 and up, if it's possible. And light will probably not be in abundance.

- One thing I try to remember is that, on average, doubling your ISO or decreasing your shutter speed by half will change your lighting by a full stop. A lot of cameras will start to get grainy at around 800 ISO, however, if lighting is really bad, it’s better to take a shot at ISO 1600 than it is to completely lose a shot altogether.

- In the bowling alley, they wanted "team" shots (20 teams!), and the rest of people bowling. I went into the alley a few minutes before 2, and set up an off-camera flash/umbrella at the top of a lane (24-105 mm F4 lens with on-camera controller). It was a good spot for this. The idea was to get the teams one by one, wrap up, and move on.

- Use a lighting plan that will set the mood for the room. Use brighter lighting over the lanes, beyond the foul line, and softer lighting over the approach and seating area. Use "soft" finishes in the bowling room. This will help absorb the noisy echo of the pins banging inside the pinsetter machines, and make the room feel much more pleasant.
