- Its f/6 focal ratio is far better than the C6-S' f/10 for astrophotos. Its 8" aperture is far better for visual use. Its central obstruction is far less, giving better contrast and flatter field illumination. Its optical simplicity will give better views. It will cool down faster, and dew up much less than the SCT.
Celestron C6-NGT Computerized Telescope # 31054
- https://agenaastro.com/celestron-c6-ngt-computerized-telescope-31054.html
- The C6-NGT Newtonian scope uses diffraction-limited parabolic primary mirror for razor sharp star images across a wide field of view. The optics of these heavyduty telescopes are manufactured to Celestron's uncompromising standards with star images that are classic textbook Airy disks.

- It's basically a 6" reflector on top of a CG-5 mount. I googled the mount a bit and it looks like it does pretty ok for basic astrophotography stuff. So what I am wondering is: 1) Is the C6-NGT package a decent enough one for viewing? It'd give me a good mount, tracking, go-to and what looks like an OK scope.

- A 6 inch SCT with a F/6.3 focal reducer will probably suffer vignetting with a larger chip camera (27mm diagonal) Small apos like the ED-80 are a good way to begin astro-photography, very forgiving with their shorter focal lengths. Of course there's field curvature so in the long run a field flattener is necessary.

- I try to help people "future proof" themselves because a good mount is key and most of the SGL imagers are using really sturdy, expensive mounts. And they will be the first to tell you that the mount is the most important part of astrophotography. I decided to get a Celestron C6-NGT because I wanted to learn before spending thousands of dollars.

- Optically, the Celestron C6-NGT Newtonian reflecting telescope uses diffraction-limited parabolic primary mirrors for extremely sharp star images across a wide field of view. The F5 focal ratio is super for wide-field use, and the scope will also handle much higher magnifications for planetary viewing.
Celestron C6-N Review
- http://www.derbyastronomy.org/CelestronC6NReview.htm
- The C6-N is a 6” diameter, 750mm focal length Newtonian (f/5). It is a very simple design, the light being collected by a parabolic mirror and brought to focus just outside the side of the optical tube by means of a 45deg flat secondary mirror. The resulting image is then magnified by whatever eyepiece you want to use.
