Field flattener for visual use? - Discussions - Stargazers Lounge

- Most field flatteners have a working distance of 55mm like the one you referenced. It would require an eyepiece holder that attaches to T-mount threads. That, and you would need quite a bit of in-focus to make it all work. Alternatively, you could try what I did with my AstroTech 72ED.
ST-80: Field flattener for visual use? - Refractors - Cloudy Nights

- The AT72ED is a decent scope, pretty well-corrected for color. The field isn't as flat as you would find in a Petzval, but it's not bad, especially compared to something like an ST80, ST120 or my 6" f/5 achro. Better eyepieces work well in …

- It would be a VERY bad idea to put it in front of the Lunt Wedge! I am not sure you will need a flattener for solar. I usually have a PowerMate or TeleXtender between wedge and camera, and that works fine. I never use the field flattener for solar, nor do I feel it is needed
Using Field Flatteners - Stellarvue
- https://www.stellarvue.com/using-field-flatteners/
- Using Photographic Field Flatteners (and Reducer/Flatteners) Refractor telescopes are made to be used visually with an eyepiece. To use a telescope for photography an optical device is needed to convert your telescope from a visual instrument to a photographic camera lens. This optical device is a field flattener (or reducer/flattener).
What Does a Field Flattener Do? - Night Sky Pix

- Petzval telescopes aside, where the field curvature is corrected in the telescope, if you are using a refractor for deep sky astrophotography, then you need a field flattener to correct for the field curvature of your instrument. A field flattener flattens the field of view and ensures round and sharp stars all around the frame. The Pac-man nebula.

- Field Flattener for Visual Use? Started by thechuckster396, 01/15/2011 10:02AM Post Reply Posted 01/15/2011 10:02AM ... Hi - I'm looking for a "visual use" field flatter for a fast f/6 refractor. I'd get a Paracorr, but they're only for use in a Newtonian reflector. All the field flatteners I see out there for refractors are for photographic ...

- Example 5: Eyepiece flattener - Finally, for visuall use it is possible to flatten field of the objective with a zero-power singlet lens pair inserted into eyepiece barrel. Being very close to the image, the only significant aberration of such corrector is astigmatism, which can …
What can a field flattener or focal reducer do for my …
- https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/what-field-flattener-focal-reducer-do-telescope/
- As with all refractors, a field fattener or field fattener-focal reducer is recommended for imaging purposes but it is unusual to use such an adaptor for observational use. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t use one for this purpose as it will allow you to observe even larger swathes of the night sky than the instrument already displays.

- Field Flatteners One of the most common aberrations in telescopes that needs to get corrected for is Field Curvature. Field curvature is where objects in a telescopes field of view appear sharp only in a certain part (s) of the frame (usually the center). This happens because of the curved nature of the optical el... Expert Support
