- Changes such as having less pixels in the image sensor (10.1 megapixels versus the 450D’s 12.2 megapixels) mean that the 1000D has larger pixels. This benefits astrophotography since smaller individual pixels tend to be noisier than larger ones. Get the most out of your camera with our DSLR guide.

- The ADC of the 1100D, like the 450D is 14-bit as opposed to 12-bit of the 1000D. Some astro imagers prefer the 14-bit processing but it is difficult to discern differences in astro images taken with 12-bit versus 14-bit cameras. Although the 450D and 1000D's highest ISO setting is 1600, the 1100D has ISO ranges up to ISO 6400.

- 1000d, also known as the Canon XS is one that Jerry recommends as a good camera for astrophotography. I've had one for almost 2 years and seems to be OK. Mine is unmodded but some have modded them. The camera does have a bulb mode and can be operated either via software or a remote timer and I have used both with it. The live view is nice.

- To the person who said that no one would recommend a 1000D for any astrophotography is wrong. The 1000D is a cheap DSLR to get into astrophotography with. It has live view and is light weight. Not everyone wants to spend $400 to $800 on a camera to "try" astrophotography.
