- The difference between the normal 60D (or most any camera's IR block filter) and the filter in the 60Da is HUGE. A normal camera is blocking about 80% of the light by the time they get to the Ha (656.28nm) wavelength. The 60Da actually lets most all of the Ha through.

Is the Canon 60Da worth it? - Cloudy Nights
- https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/475802-is-the-canon-60da-worth-it/
- I agree that the 60Da is very nice, but I am thinking that for the same money, it would be better to maybe get a fully Baader modified three digit Canon and something like the 650D for normal daytime photography. These two would give excellent results for their own purposes (better than the 60Da) and would cost about the same as the 60Da.

- The 60Da has a little bit less thermal signal than the T2i (550D). The 60Da has a very nice tiltable vari-angle LCD viewing screen. The 60Da color balance for daytime photography is very acceptable for non-critical family snapshot-type images. The 60Da comes with a 1-year Canon manufacturer's warranty. The 60Da body only costs about $1,500.

- Because of the 60Da's modification to increase IR sensitivity for astrophotography, if you plan on using the camera for regular visible-light photography, you probably should get an IR cut filter, otherwise you may experience color shifts when the sensor gathers both visible and non-visible light together (magenta cast with synthetic fabrics, and foliage greens being off are …

- It's probably best to think of the 60Da as special-purpose astrophotography gear. In order to get the increased Hα sensitivity, Canon have modified the IR-cut filter that sits in front of the sensor, letting in quite a bit more light in the near-visible IR range. …
Canon 60Da or 'full frame' better for astrophotography?
- SnappyChappie wrote: Hi all, I've often wondered why Canon chose to use it's crop-sensored EOS 60D to adapt to a version for astrophotography - the 60Da - instead of choosing a "full-frame" sensored DSLR, like for instance, the Canon EOS 6D which is meant to be good in low-light situations in terms of lower noise and greater sensistivity compared to the 60D's sensor.
