- Charles Josiah Belden was a photographer, author, rancher, airplane buff, and employee of the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission. Belden's photography created a popular image of the West of the 1920's and 30's as a place caught between the old and the new; his photographs were key in establishing the current myth of the West.

- Belden's interest in photography was sparked when he purchased a Zeiss Palmes camera to record the journey. In 1912, Belden married Eugene's sister Frances. He began early experimentation with color photography. Several of his color photographs were published as part of a book on the 1915 Pan-American Exposition.
