- First off, I would suggest reading the manual for your XSi. Canon has made it very easy to understand the shooting modes. For HDR, you want to shoot in AV (aperture priority) because you don't want your DOF to change while capturing the 3 exposures. AV mode combined with AEB will give you good results.

- In short, yes, the XSi does give you HDR helping functions, what especially the Nikon entry level DSLRs do not (D40, D40X, D60 have no bracketing and no mirror lock up, the D80 has no mirror lock up but has bracketing). With the XTi, you can avoid having to press the shutter 6 times to bracket three shots when using MLU.
