- George Fiske (1835-1918) was the first photographer who was a year-round resident of Yosemite. Most of the images in this volume are from the 1870 to 1890. Bad luck followed his legacy. Three quarters of Fiske's negatives and his equipment were destroyed in a 1904 fire. The remainder were consumed in another fire in 1943.
