- Even mediocre guiding can reduce that to +/- 1 arc sec. Going unguided is a bad idea. Dithering reduces background noise, particularly fixed pattern noise. Compared to guiding, it's more a tweak. Good imagers want to reduce all the noise they can, because of the low signal to noise ratio in DSO astrophotography.
