- I don't know if this fits your work flow, but I just go-to a nearby (45 degrees or less) 1st magnitude star, up the ISO to 25,000. Then center the star, use focus magnify, put on the Bahtinov mask, focus, remove mask, slew to target, compose image, return camera to shoot ISO and expose. But I suppose your method is at least as accurate, maybe better.
