- Any DSLR is capable of infrared photography - two methods; - you need an IR filter on the lens (something like the R72 or R95 which block wavelengths below 720nm and 950nm respectively) and a tripod because the exposures will be long (there's an IR filter over the sensor which blocks most of the IR, so you need long exposures to get enough to make an image).

- Okay guys, I'm new to this forum and am a very recreational photographer. My uncle, who was a enthusiast, had a D7000 that was converted to Infrared, not an external filter, a conversion. He has passed away and it appears the camera will become mine since nobody else cares much for pictures lacking visible light.

- That rep don`t know what he is talking about!!!You can get a R72 filter for Ir[there are others] but I don`t know how sensitive the D7000 will be for Ir since the higher quality cameras have an Ir blocking filter. The older Nikons can shoot with a filter and gives great images but you will need to shoot on a tripod. The D70 is one of the best.
Macro photography - D7000 or D700? | Central Florida Photo Ops

- With a sharp lens, using base ISO, the D7000 makes full use of all of it’s pixels and therefore has very good resolution when compared to the D700. For macro photography, the extra magnification, pixels, and increased apparent depth of field will almost always be an advantage. So my first choice for macro photography now will be the D7000.
