- Sony a7S Body & Design This camera weighs 1.11 lbs and measures 5” x 3.7” x 1.9”, so it’s a great, compact mirrorless good for everyday shooting. If you’re a Sony shooter already, then you’re going to be accustomed to the menu system right out of the box. Personally, I think the Sony menu is a bit clunky, but nothing that you can’t figure out.

- It is excellent for stills. I have one. You can enlarge to 16X20. The original Canon 5D, back in 1965, with 12.8 megapixels, was known as the “film killer,” because it demonstrated that digital could more or less equal film. The a7s has even better dynamic range, with 12 megapixels.

- Its 1080p footage is the cleanest, most detailed we've yet seen, with virtually no moiré and often jaw-dropping low-light performance. Some of the low light advantage is undercut if you need to stop-down to achieve sufficient depth-of-field but, unlike smaller sensor systems, you have the choice over whether to do this or whether to embrace the shallow-depth-of-field …

- There is no way you will get splendid astrophotos with rather slow lenses and no star tracker. Both cameras mentioned can bring home astrophotos (the sensitivity in the Ha line is somewhat limited). The A7S might be the best choice if into low light video.
