- The tree was apparently killed by a lightning strike several years ago then later sculpted by artist Leigh Conkie. The two close up images of the carved tree were shot at night using the Lumix LX3 hand held at 1/30 and 1/20th of a second both at f2.8, ISO400. The tree was side lit by a large yellow spotlight.

- The LX3 has a lens which happens to be a Leica Summicron DC Lens with a range from 24mm at f/2.0 and extending on the long end with 60mm at f/2.8. Yes, that’s right f/2.8. What this means is that it keeps a relatively fast aperture at this focal length and it lends itself quite well for Portrait photography.

- My old Lumix LX3 was a little tricky to use when making action photos of trains. If the camera was in full ‘auto’ mode and I pressed on the shutter release the camera would hesitate for a moment. The trick was to use the manual setting and then ‘queue-up’ the camera by presssing the shutter release halfway in preparation for making a photo.

- In The Round – The Pep Ventosa Photography Technique. Pep Ventosa shoots an object doing a 360-degree circle and aptly named the technique ‘In the Round’. He walks around an object like a tree or a lamp post taking shots at the same height every couple of feet until he’s gone full circle. The beauty of his images is then created in an ...

- Here's an example - this one isn't even a very close shot, but I still couldn't get it to focus. (I know this isn't a "good" photo, I was just shooting this flower plainly to ask a friend what it is.) This is the best shot out of about twenty! The flower is almost in focus, but as you can see, only the leaf directly above the flower is actually ...
