- Nexstar 8SE with a piggyback mount (center, right). Ideally, I’d have a separate EQ mount for my DSLR, such as a Skywatcher Star Adventurer, but for $20 the piggyback bracket was a cheap way to try out wide-field astrophotography without purchasing a second rig.

- If pursuing long exposure astrophotography then you will be better served with a GEM mount. The issue is field rotation. With a Nexstar Alt-Az, you then need a wedge, which is a horribly tedious cumbersome device that adds 16lbs to an Evolution mount. However, if pursuing short stacked exposures (or live stacked EAA) then an Alt-Az is fine.

- Nexstar 6/8 SE has a weight limit of about 11 lbs. Your Dob would probably be over that. if your mount is a 4/5 SE the weight limit is even less. The Nexstar mount is designed for SCT's which are short. Your 6" dob is 4' long (presuming it's a standard F8) so with the balance point is in the middle, it will extend 2' each side.

- For serious astrophotography, you need long exposure times, such as 30-40 minutes. This is only possible with an automized equatorial mount. Celestron 6SE’s NexStar Mount is not an equatorial; it is an altazimuth.

- The mount head connects securely using 3 threaded bolts. It has a nice design and it feels secure. Single Arm Fork Mount. The mount head unit and fork arm have a plastic outer casing, reminding you that this is a budget-friendly GoTo telescope package. The Celestron NexStar remote seats neatly inside of the arm, which is a clever space-saving ...

- Unstable. No Battery. Reliable Accuracy. Mostly Plastic Build. The wobbling gets frustrating after a while. The mount is the most problematic part of Celestron NexStar 130 SLT. It cannot carry the weight of a 650mm optical tube. The wobbling starts to get really annoying at high powers. 8 AA Battery Slot.
Celestron NexStar 5SE Review: Incomplete Perfection

- Review. If Celestron NexStar 5SE were priced slightly lower, it would be an excellent choice. But it is 700$. At this price range, you can probably find a Z12, which would be almost 6x more powerful. So, optical power is not what you are paying for; it is the sturdy mount, portability, and GoTo features.
