- The D3000 shares the same 10 million pixel CCD sensor as the D60, and almost exactly the same body and design, but this camera is more than a cosmetic revamp of the older model. Crucially, the D60's adequate but uninspiring 3-point AF system is gone, replaced by the same 11-point system as found in the D90.

- Despite its relatively low resolution, the D3000's LCD screen is bright and clear, and the difference between 230,000 pixels and 920,000 is less pronounced in normal use than might be expected. The difference only really becomes noticeable when zooming in to check critical focus, which is much easier with Nikon's higher resolution screens.

- Our in-depth review of the Nikon D3000, which replaces the popular D60 as Nikon's latest entry-level DSLR. A new guide mode and revamped AF system make the D3000 a compelling upgrade for D60 and D40X users, but the lack of a Live View function will not go unnoticed in the feature-hungry entry-level sector.

- The D3000 makes a good first impression. It’s small for a DSLR, measuring 126 x 97 x 64 mm, although that’s actually slightly thicker than the EOS 1000D. It’s around 35g heavier than the Canon...

- With the D3000, Nikon has opted against drastic ergonomic changes compared to earlier entry-level models, and the overall experience of shooting with the D3000 is almost exactly the same as the D60, D40x or D40. Whether or not this is a good thing depends on how you prefer to use your camera.
