- #1 I recently bought a D3100 and I have tried changing/playing around with everything, but my photos are still blurry. I have an 18-55mm lens. All I want to do is take pictures of my daughter, but she is never quite in focus, while the background is crystal clear. 480sparky Chief Free Electron Relocator Supporting Member Joined Mar 8, 2011 Messages

- #1 chip_chipowski Bryan, what "mode" is the camera set to. My first guess is that your shutter speed is too slow. Try putting the camera into "P" mode and check to see if you have any exposure compensation. You should be able to see these settings in the info screen. chip_chipowski, Aug 26, 2015 #1 bryan_c

Otherwise, better lighting will result in the camera having a faster shutter speed and a smaller aperture setting. This results in a clearer photograph.

- First, focus on something. Then, while looking through the viewfinder, move it one direction until it stops, and then back all the way. At some point the subject should become clear. If it doesn't, and all the glass is clean, it could be the mirror in the camera, which means taking/sending it …

- This causes the lenses to refract the light on the edges more than the middle, causing the majority of the picture to appear blurry. I try to go for around 50mm. More expensive lenses tend to not have this flaw. In addition to refraction, the picture is distorted.

- 2 Answers Sorted by: 1 "Incredibly bad" might be because you are using too high ISO. Use Manual Mode, open up the aperture to the widest, set the shutter speed to 1/100 and then adjust the ISO as necessary. And use the viewfinder while taking stills. Quality of the photos taken in LV is not WYSIWG (not at least with D5100, which I use). Share

- Re: My Nikon D3300 Has Issues with Blurry Photos (Lens Problem?) In reply to bobn2 • Nov 14, 2016 Alright, the camera (the body) itself was set to MF because if I set it so any of the others AF-S, AF-C, or AF-A then the camera will not take the photo at all because it believes that the image is not in focus (which indeed is true).

- Basically out of 700+ photos, about 30-40 are decently usable and you can make out something, the rest are a blurry mess where you have to zoom out/resize to 10% to see a decently clear picture. I have to specify that these were all taken using the same method: camera hold as User Manual instructs, firm on my feet and holding my breath.

- If it now does, then it may be a problem in the viewfinder's auto focus mechanism which might need service. If the lens does not auto focus in either viewfinder or live view mode, then take it off once more, and clean the electronic contacts on both the lens and the camera with some isopropyl alcohol and a swab, and try once more.
