- "Schneideritis" (ughh! I hate that word) is caused by the black anti-reflection paint breaking away from the ground edges of the lens elements. The little spots you can see are air/glass reflections from the rim of the lenses. It's not …

- May 1, 2006. #2. It refers to the flaking of the black paint used on the bevels of elements in lenses. The purpose of the paint is to reduce internal reflections in the lens. I don't think it is particular to Schneider lenses, but the construction of the Super-Angulon and some of the other Schneider wide lenses makes this problem more visible ...

- 1. Schneideritis, an affliction affecting Schneider lenses, but also others. Manifested as a flaking of the flat black paint used on the internal retaining rings, whose main purpose is to reduce internal reflections in the lens. Debatable as to how much it affects image quality. In this example of a 135mm f/4 Schneider Componon-S, there is ...
Schneideritis? - large format photography

- Leigh, schneideritis isn't due to failed anodizing, it is due to poor adhesion of the black paint applied to elements' edges. In spite of the name, it occurs with other makers' lenses. For example, most of my Boyer lenses have bad cases. But not all, and there's a problem. It isn't clear what factors besides the edge blacking material ...
Repair: “Shneideritis” & Edge Separation - Richard Haw's …

- Schneideritis – The name came from collectors and photographers who notice this on their older Shneider lenses and the term stuck and is now widely to describe this flaw. This is simply the black paint separating from the walls of the lens element/s and is showing up as spots where the paint has peeled. This also happens to modern lenses.
Schneideritis - large format photography

- Schneideritis I recently bought my first large format lens - a used Schneider 5.6 150mm Symmar-S - from a small and reputable camera shop. The lens has a moderate to advanced case of Schneideritis (separation of anti-reflective paint near the edge of the front lens element). Areas where paint separation occurs on my lens look like tiny bubbles.

- Schneider lenses effect their performance? Rodenstockitis, Zeissitis, and Nikkoritis seem to never be mentioned. I've used (and still use) several vintage lenses with plenty of xxxxitis, subjectively without effecting the images they throw. Most of my exposures made a f/45 and f/64.... is the effect of Schneideritis less felt at these small ...

- Camera. In it, he mentions "Schneideritis," a problem with black paint on lens elements in some Schneider lenses. I did some web research and found very little information on it. I'm really interested in any informed comments on the following questions: o) What does it look like? o) How might it affect image quality? o) Is it worth fixing?
Schneider Componon S 100mm f5.6 Tube Lens Test - Close-up Photography

- The CPNS100 is easy to find on the used market, and the prices are very reasonable, I’ve paid $15-30 for the samples I have, including $15 for the lens above with a mild case of lens cement failure (sometimes called Schneideritis). For the cost, the Componon-S 5.6/100 is pretty easy to recommend for use as a tube lens.
