Dektol Developer | Photo.net Photography Forums
- https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/dektol-developer.482299/
- Dektol is not a film developer. It is the classic standard Kodak paper developer that almost every photography student has learned on for decades. Dilute the stock solution 1:2, but stick to using it for paper unless you want to confuse your students with something that is not standard practice.

- Dektol is a clean working active developer with plenty of developing capacity. It is best used as a one shot formula as the tray or tank life is maybe 24 hours at the outside. - Here’s a “classic from the archive”, written back in 2010, when I was doing a lot more darkroom work. - Recent batches of DEKTOL with date codes of August 2019 or later have been coming out darker than normal when mixed. This is due to a non-photo active impurity. This has no impact on product performance. We are working with our manufacturer to quickly bring the color back to its normal neutral appearance.

- michael_r said: Yes. PE confirmed this as well (in the case of Dektol/D-72). If home mixed D-72 is found to discolour more or faster than packaged Dektol, perhaps this is due to lesser purity and/or freshness (more oxidation) of bulk chemicals obtained for home mixing.

- since dektol doesn’t have glycin in it it doesn’t have the same long lifespan as ansco130 so when it turns black i spike it with a capful of stock solution. i haven’t nailed the right exposures with the paper, or the right split yet but it is fun putzing around trying to start over again using a new developer with past experiences i ...
