- I believe sports mode limits the minimum shutter speed. So if you do not have enough light, yes the photo will be dark. One option is to use M mode and work down to the slowest useable shutter speed while using a high ISO and widest aperature. Also by shooting RAW you can underexpose to help with shutter speed and correct it in Lightroom.
