Is it worth buying a Canon 7D for a professional photographer?

- I always advise my photography students to buy used, pro level gear over new consumer-level gear. The pro level gear just has better controls, better ergonomics, and is more durable. The 7D is built like a tank. I still use my 7D despite also owning a 5D mk IV and an EOS R. The 7D is still a solid workhorse camera that gets the job done.

- So, my questions are for all the PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS HERE: If you own a 7D, 1. Are you happy with the AF? 2. Do you think that there are so many tweaks that it takes 5 minutes to set up the camera to get a good shot. 3. Do you think only a PRO has the ability to use the camera for the intended purpose - which is to take photographs? 4.

- It is certainly marketed by Canon as a professional camera. It is their top of the line APS-C DSLR. I suspect that a fair number of the guys in vests with big white lenses you will see dodging linemen on the sidelines of the superbowl will have a 7D on the backside of the lens. Others might have the APS-H 1D or the full frame 1Ds.

- The 7D isn't classified as a Canon pro body and stamping your feet won't change that fact. I'm happy for the man, but lets be responsible with our knowledge and not spread misinformation. Hey, i dont care if it is officially classified as pro or a non-pro camera. 7D is huge jump for me which makes me feel so good and pro when i use it.

- There are some things about the 7D, however, that aren't taken into consideration. The 7D is Canon's first offering that allows you to take native 1080p24 and 1080p29.97 video. The 5D only allowed 1080p30(literal) which required a bit of conversion even to use on a 29.97 timeline. It also takes 720p60 for excellent slow-motion shots.

- And the really sad part is that over 99% of the photographers using the 7D will NEVER print larger than 13″ x 19″, thus making the extra megapixels beyond 12mp not just a complete and utter waste, but actually a nuisance (slower to transfer, slower to post process, more storage space required, etc.)
